Pattern is not only a look. It changes strength, waste and labour, and on a driveway it changes performance.
Running bond
Offset rows, minimal cuts, fastest to lay. Fine for walkways and patios. On a driveway, tyres can work individual units loose over time.
Herringbone
The strongest interlock and the default for vehicle surfaces. Every edge needs a cut, which is why it costs more than running bond across the same area.
Basketweave
Traditional, reads as older, and works well on heritage-style properties. Weaker interlock than herringbone, so keep it off driveways.
Ashlar and random
Mixed unit sizes in a repeating module. Modern, calm, and it hides minor colour variation well. Requires careful setting out or the repeat becomes obvious.
Whatever the field pattern, a soldier course border gives it a clean edge and hides cuts.
