Four surfaces dominate pool decks in the GTA. They behave very differently around wet feet and Canadian winters.
Large-format slab
Clean modern look, fewer joints, and a smooth but textured finish that suits bare feet. Heavier units need a very flat base. Individual slabs can be lifted and reset.
Interlock pavers
The most forgiving option: flexible, repairable, huge range of colour and texture, and easy to extend later. More joints to maintain.
Natural stone
Flagstone and quarried stone look superb and age well. Some varieties get hot in direct August sun and some are slick when wet, so choose with samples in hand.
Poured concrete
Cheapest to install across a large area, but it cracks where it wants and de-icing salt attacks the surface. Once it spalls, patching never matches.
The decision that actually matters
Whatever the surface, the deck has to drain away from the pool and the house. A beautiful deck that ponds is a bad deck.
