Topsoil and grading

The layer everything else depends on, and the one builders leave out.

What is usually there

In most new GTA subdivisions, a few centimetres of poor soil over compacted clay. Roots cannot get down and water cannot get through.

What we do

Strip, correct grade so water leaves the house, then place screened topsoil at a depth that turf and planting can actually live in.

Why it matters first

No amount of fertilizer, seed or sod fixes a soil depth problem. This is the cheapest stage to get right and the most expensive to retrofit.

Whatever the material, the base under it and the water around it decide how it looks in ten years.
