Pool decks are permanently wet. They need a plan for water that does not involve hoping it evaporates.
Grade away from the pool
Water running into the pool carries dirt and lawn chemicals. Water running toward the house is worse. The deck falls away from both.
Deck drains on flat lots
Where there is nowhere for surface water to go, channel drains and catch basins collect it and pipe it to a discharge point. Grates need to be flush and cleanable.
Why it matters in winter
Ponded water on a deck becomes ice. Ice moves stone, and it is a liability the moment anyone walks on it.
Coping detail
The coping edge is where deck water either sheds away or runs back into the shell. It is a few millimetres of fall that decides which.
