Why solid treads

A single slab per tread has no joints to move, no units to shift, and reads as part of the landscape rather than assembled on it.

What to know

Weight means machine access for placement. Risers must stay equal across the flight, and the treads need a slight forward fall so water sheds.

Cost

Higher than block steps, and effectively permanent. On a front entrance it is usually the detail that lifts the whole facade.

Whatever the material, the base under it and the water around it decide how it looks in ten years.
